Our Mission
To improve tree equity by establishing tiny native forests in and around the Chicago metropolitan area - because all communities deserve trees and the health, climate and social benefits they provide.

Why Tree Equity?
The addition of a forest creates definable change we can experience with all our senses.
Covid-19 exposed vulnerabilities and reminded us of our connection with each other and the outdoors.
A change with several short-term (and long-term) benefits can inspire hope for a better future.
Our Team
We’re a group of passionate individuals who care about the planet and our collective future.

A short video about why we do what we do

SIZE & SPEED
Ideally suited for small urban sites, matures in 20 years vs. 200 years for a primary forest
REMEDIATION
Remediates degraded urban soil and improves soil microbiome
BIODIVERSITY
Supports 16 times as many species as non-native landscape
SURVIVAL
Young plants allow formation of stronger taproots
LOW MAINTENANCE
Water and weed for 3 years, largely self-sustained after that; no chemicals needed
THE MIYAWAKI METHOD
Find out what's happening.
On May 20, 2022, with the help of over 70 volunteers, we planted our first tiny native Miyawaki forest in Markham, Illinois.

Together, we can make a difference.
