Illinois' First Miyawaki Forest
Together with the Markham community and dozens of volunteers, we planted the first Miyawaki Forest in Illinois.

On May 20, 2022, Nordson Green Earth Foundation ー along with our partners, donors, and volunteers ー planted Illinois’ first tiny native Miyawaki forest.

Although covering just 1/50 of an acre, this tiny forest was the culmination of nearly ten months of planning and collaboration.

We could not have done any of this without the generosity, good will, and endless support of our partners: Cook County, the City of Markham, and Commissioner Bridget Degnen (middle.)

And special thanks to Ms. Chielo and the students of Prairie-Hills Junior High School ー we loved seeing younger generations in the fight against climate change!

It was a pleasure to work with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Semmer Landscape, Drew Hart and the Student Conservation Association, Openlands, West Cook Wild Ones, and Midwest Groundcovers.

To the 75 volunteers who were there with us on Planting Day, we are so grateful for your time and effort. We can’t wait to watch this forest ー rooted in place thanks to your handiwork ー grow and flourish!

This is the beginning of a movement. From the tips of our roots to the tops of our trees, we’re grateful to all of our supporters.
